Google Classroom - Parental Guidance How to turn off notifications for Google Classroom Year 11 Prom Postponed Due to schools being closed because of the Coronavirus pandemic, it is with great regret that I must inform you that our Year 11 Prom, which was scheduled for 24th June 2020, has been postponed until further notice. Year 11 students were informed of this decision in an assembly before we closed the school due to the Covid 19 outbreak. We will endeavour to rearrange the Prom for a later date but until we are given an all clear to return to school by the government we cannot confirm when that date will be. Please be aware that this decision has not been taken lightly and has been taken with the health and safety of our students as the paramount reason. We will keep parents and carers informed regarding the confirmation of a new date as soon as we can. Yours sincerely, C.Emmerson Learning Manager Year 11 Free School Meals during academy closure The DfE has now confirmed the higher rate of £3.00 a day for Free School Meals during term time. We’re determined to help as much as possible so, as a one off, we will provide an extra £13.20 to those eligible for Free School Meals by doing the following: 1) We will continue to pay at the current rate of £2.30 a day but we will also provide vouchers for the two week Easter Holiday 2) We will update to the higher rate of £3.00 a day from the first day of next term Access to Kudos Kudos is a careers website which students can use at home. At the moment this is for Years 8-11. Their usernames remain the same as their G-Suite username but their passwords have been changed to careers20 for everyone. Fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust Staff and students at Outwood Academy Portland are helping to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust to help support an ex-student of ours who is battling her fight with cancer. Book Buzz Year 7 students receive a free book from the Book Trust. Macmillan Coffee Morning On Friday 27th September 2019 Outwood Academy Portland hosted their annual Macmillan Coffee Morning for students, staff and visitors. John Mann Summer School John Mann Citizenship’s Summer School is a project run for Year 11 leavers which supports young people to develop their leadership skills, consider career opportunities in some of the most prestigious workplaces in the country. Trip to Ypres On Friday 15th February 2019, a mixture of 30 Year 10 and Year 11 students were taken on an amazing trip to Ypres in Belgium. Sir Michael Wilkins, Academy Principal and Chief Executive of OGAT , added “I am very proud of the success at Portland, and the hard work by staff and students that has made ‘Ofsted Outstanding’ and ‘Teaching School’ status possible.” Teaching Schools take a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession, identifying leadership potential and providing support for other schools. Outwood Academy Portland is one of just 61 schools in the whole of England to be granted teaching school status in the latest round. Teaching Schools have been in existence since 2011 and are all rated as “outstanding".
